About

Terry Rooney has been a dedicated trial lawyer for 30 years and takes great pride in obtaining successful outcomes for his clients through hard work, grit, and tenacity. During the first 27 years of his career as a trial lawyer, from 1990–2017, Terry primarily devoted his practice to defending healthcare professionals in medical malpractice claims involving negligence. In fact, Terry was recognized by Best Lawyers® for his work in Medical Malpractice Law and Personal Injury Litigation, and was awarded “Lawyer of the Year” in both Personal Injury Litigation and Medical Malpractice Law for Defendants in Salt Lake City.

During that period, Terry also represented select individuals and families that suffered serious injuries and deaths. This latter experience led Terry to join forces with Jefferson Gross to form Gross and Rooney in 2017 and dedicate and refocus his efforts toward representing injured individuals and cases involving wrongful death.

Mr. Rooney’s experience of representing defendants in medical injury cases and now representing injured individuals is unique in the Utah market. The experience he garnered from his defense practice provided him with an even deeper understanding of the complex medical issues and facts involved in medical malpractice cases. Moreover, he knows how the other side thinks because he was on the other side for many years. This knowledge and experience have transferred to continued success in representing his current clients in cases involving serious injuries and wrongful death.

In addition to successfully resolving cases through settlement, many of which involved seven figure amounts, Terry’s long-standing extensive malpractice trial experience establishes credibility with the opposition. They know he is a fierce advocate for his clients, with a reputation for going to trial when necessary. In that regard, Terry has tried multiple cases in Salt Lake City and the surrounding communities, including St. George, Heber, Farmington, and Vernal.
